November 12
Area:
Upper BCC
Location:
Wiilow Heights, ascending past the beaver pond to the top of Wills Hill-West Monitor. Descents of West Monitor and Wills Hill.
Elevations, slope angles and aspects:
7500'-10200', all aspects, slope angles to 40°.
Snow conditions:
A skiff of snow at the Silver Fork lodge increased to a little over an inch at the higher elevations. Snow line on the shady side was around 9000'. Hoar frost was found in the morning
because of the lingering moist air. By afternoon, not only was the frost melted, but snow fall at that elevation was also gone. Aspects retaining old snow were crusted, variable depths, except for the north facing, which was 10-12" deep and faceted, held together by one deteriorating mf crust.
Weather:
Bluebird, with litle wind. Cool morning temperatures warmed to mild by afternoon.
Snowpit:
Evaluation:
The little storm did little to improve the skiing (best where a supportable crust was found) or increase instability.
Snow is mostly stable.
